Sonic Alert Clocks
If you plan to use your Sonic Alert clock overseas, check out the SBB500ss Sonic Bomb, SB200ss, SBD375ss Dual Alarm, SBA475ss Analog Alarm and SBH400ss Sweetheart models. They work in the U.S. and Europe! So if you have any of these clocks and it's keeping the wrong time, check that it's set to 60Hz for use in the U.S.

“Sign From The Start… Success For A Lifetime!”

Accomplishments of 2008 and Goals for 2009
DBC is proud of all that we have accomplished this past year. With the organizational support and fiscal sponsorship of the California Association of the Deaf, DBC has been able to establish itself on a national level as an advocate for Deaf babies’ and children’s rights to American Sign Language from the start.

Accomplishments 2008:
Established a website www.dbcusa.org
DBC CA led an ASL Rally in Milpitas, CA, March 2008
Booths at ASL Expos in CA and Minn.
Participated in the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Conference, March 2008
Participated in the CAL-ED Conference in March 2008
Held its first biennial DBC Education Conference in Milwaukee WI, June 2008. Seven hundred
people registered. Conference was booked to its maximum occupancy with more than 700
people. Several hundred more showed up to participate in the ASL rallies.
Established relationships with NAD, ASDC, CEASD, CAEBER and Gallaudet and established
an on-going Roundtable at Gallaudet University. Oct. 2008. Working to establish a Deaf
Mentor Training Program and high quality materials and literature on ASL for early intervention
programs, the medical society, and family resources.
DBC IN led an ASL Rally at Ft. Harrison in Indianapolis, IN
Held a DBC Organizational Retreat in Fremont, CA, November 2008
Established 34 DBC Chapters and 3 International Chapters
Mentored hearing parents.
Held several successful fundraisers to support the mission of DBC.
Established networks with businesses that support DBC’s mission.
Produced many educational vlogs and blogs to promote awareness.
Released several national press releases.
Was featured in Deaf Life, August 2008.
Was featured in SigNews, August 2008

The Deaf Bilingual Coalition promotes the basic human right of all Deaf infants and young children to have access to language and cognitive development through American Sign Language (ASL).

Our Purpose:
The main purpose of the Deaf Bilingual Coalition is to emphasize the importance of the social, emotional, linguistic, and cognitive aspects (of ASL) pertaining to early visual language acquisition for all Deaf infants and young children.

The secondary purpose is to make the general public aware of the prevalence of misconceptions and misinformation that devalues ASL.

NATIONAL OUTREACH:
* Outreach nationally with organizations, businesses, schools, etc.
* Monitor Legislation
* Actively participate in conferences through Presentations and Exhibits
* Continue work with other organizations on mentorship training and information and media kits or early intervention

CHAPTERS:
* Coordinate chapter websites
* Support chapter efforts including rallies and PR
* Continue to link states with their early intervention systems
* Consult states and their chapters with guidance and information
* Monitor Bills and Laws
* Serve on national and state committees

GOALS FOR 2009

DBC Goals:

The DBC is a community of Deaf and hearing people whose goals are to promote language acquisition, social justice, and quality education through the awareness of ASL and its excellence in cultivating the critical intellect of Deaf infants and young Deaf children. The Deaf Bilingual Coalition will work to inform parents of Deaf children, guardians, teachers of the Deaf, doctors, audiologists, government officials, businesses, and other organizations on the importance of ASL in early language acquisition for all Deaf infants and young Deaf children. DBC will work to spread awareness of the research that shows that ASL does make significant contribution to the development of literacy skills in both languages, ASL and English. And lastly, DBC will work in collaboration with others to promote the respect for and understanding of ASL.

Medical Interpreting from a Deaf Medical Doctor’s Perspectives by a deaf physician, Mike McKee, MD will be presented in Palm Bay, Florida on Saturday, February 7, 2009 starting at 9 a.m..

Register online before Jauuary 18 for the $35 rate. 0.5 RID CEUs in Professional Studies with the instructional level geared to those with some experience in medical interpreting. The target audience is for both CMP and ACET.

REMINDER: Deaf Cantata

This is a last minute Reminder of the Deaf Cantata tomorrow at Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Sebring, FL. We are alittle hard to find, so be sure to give yourself plenty of time. Our address is 1708 LaGrange Ave.

[ If you come down 27 ,turn onto Sebring Parkway. There are two Traffic Lights ...then you will come around a curve that demands 15 miles per hour..... two lights past the curve is WOODLAWN. Take a left onto Woodlawn. LaGrange is a couple blocks down, turn left onto LaGrange. The small Church is in the middle of a residential area.]

Our choir is not large, and our production not fancy. It is our Thank You Gift to our Church for including the Deaf Community into their Church Family. Most importantly, it is our Christmas Gift to our Lord Jesus.

This is our Love Gift to Jesus. You are welcome to celebrate with us.

The Service begins TOMORROW at 11:00. (December 21, 2008 - Sunday)
