Update: After a couple of discouraging attempts, I decided to try calling T-Mobile one more time and have just discovered that I have the option of paying $39.99 per month for their total internet package! This doesn't include text messages, but you have the option of paying $5 extra for 400 texts, $10 for 1k texts, and $15 for unlimited texts. This so made my day! :)

I ran into the same problem and so purchased a Behold. I was paying 39.99 for that data plan and then 14.99 for text messaging. However, I hate the Behold, after having different sidekicks for years I expect some applications and downloads to be available, all the Behold has is weather or maps. So I called about the G1 and was told the same thing, to pay the 35 PLUS 29.99 for a voice plan I could not use. I asked to be transferred to the loyalty dept, since I am a long time customer, and was given a discount to a 19.99 phone plan. The total of which is comparable to what I was paying for the Behold service. For someone coming off of having a sidekick though, its a huge increase and very discriminatory.

I purchased a G1 this afternoon only to discover that they don't have a deaf friendly data only plan. I basically was asked if I'd be interested in one of their sidekick or blackberry models that currently do have data only plans. I don't know about you, but where I reside AT&T and Verizon are far superior service carriers. If it comes down to "settling," for a bb, I won't be doing so with T-Mobile. Quite a shame as I was all set to renew my 2 year contract with them and as a result they'll be losing a long term customer. Does anybody else feel this isn't exactly providing equal access?

Sorry for the delay, the customer rep. was the one who explained about making only data plan for the deaf in January...it was the Customer rep in T-mobile...

We also asked about the GPS plan....he said that for GPS feature it would cost 7 bucks extra a month....but it also has a lower kind of GPS that uses phone towers between the area to figure where you are but its not AS accurate as the real GPS which will be 7 bucks a month...

Sorry for the vagueness....I didn't call the customer rep, my family member did easier since I am deaf myself...

Right now we will be calling T-mobile soon and see what's up...I'll try to keep you updated!

Who told you about this plan? The customer rep from the T-Mobile headquarter or from the retailer store? Who are "they"? That is very vague sentence. Sorry about it.
